How to Check Your Debt Review Status

Plenty of South Africans discover their debt review flag the hard way - a declined application, years after they thought the chapter closed. Others carry flags from processes they barely started. Either way, the cure begins with a diagnosis, and the diagnosis is free.

Check One: Pull Your Reports

Each registered bureau - TransUnion, Experian, Compuscan, XDS - owes you one free credit report annually under the National Credit Act. Request them online and hunt for a "debt review" or "debt counselling" indicator on your profile. Check more than one bureau: their records drift apart, and a flag cleared at one office routinely survives at another. That drift alone traps thousands.

Check Two: Query the Register

The NCR's Debt Help System holds the national record of review cases, and any registered debt counsellor can query your entry. Your original counsellor is the natural first call; if they have vanished - practices close constantly - a current counsellor or a service like ours runs the check on your behalf.

Decoding the Result

Flagged and still repaying a restructured plan? The system is working as intended - stay the course. Flagged but fully paid up? You are owed a clearance certificate and a bureau update - the gap between "owed" and "received" is where we work. Flagged without ever being declared over-indebted? The court route on our removal page may apply, with costs itemised here.

While the flag stands, lending to you is illegal for every registered provider - so every unnecessary month costs you real options. Apply online and let us check, decode and fix in one motion.
